Take your writing from ordinary to extraordinary in this not-to-be-missed introductory calligraphy workshop! QC artist and calligrapher Amy Nielsen will lead students in a creative study of the FORMAL ALPHABET, which is one of the most important basic alphabets in western calligraphy. Using felt-tipped pens, you’ll develop an understanding of all the basics to be able to write a formal alphabet.
Amy Nielsen, a native of the Quad Cities, creates works from a variety of media. She mixes the qualities of gold leaf embellishments with watercolor, traditional pen and ink, and calligraphic brushes to produce unique works having a distinct signature. Amy started her career with Hallmark Cards and has used that experience to incorporate tight illustrations with precise calligraphy and a sense of natural illumination. Working in slate is her current passion., as she originally learned from Fr. E.M. Catich and CSM Paul P. Herrera. The slate pieces are hand-inscribed with chisel and mallet and illuminated with color and 23K gold. She is an active member of The Arts Collective, and contributor to Quad City Arts, Festival of Trees. Founding BOD and Core Instructor Art Legacy League (ALL) currently serving as President.
