Donnell Rawlings is a dynamic force in comedy, captivating audiences worldwide as a comedian, actor, and podcaster. Since the release of his Netflix special A New Day—produced by longtime collaborator Dave Chappelle—Rawlings has solidified his reputation as a comedy heavyweight. Chappelle himself praised him, saying: “I’ve been doing this a long time, and comedians like Donnell are not only friends but have inspired my own career. Anyone in the comedy community knows their names, and knows their time to shine is long overdue. I am proud to be a part of this moment.”
Currently headlining his Black & Mild Tour, Donnell continues to sell out clubs and theaters across the U.S. and abroad. His electric performances have included appearances at the Netflix Is a Joke Festival, New York Comedy Festival, and Moontower Comedy Festival, as well as sharing the stage with legends Chris Rock, Earthquake, and Chappelle at the Hollywood Bowl and The Forum. He recently joined Chappelle for a historic run at Radio City Music Hall and performed with him on Saturday Night Live.
Beyond the stage, Donnell hosts the popular podcast The Donnell Rawlings Show, recorded from his home in Yellow Springs, Ohio. With more than 8 million views on YouTube, the show has featured such guests as Andrew Schulz, Teddy Swims, Steve-O, Dr. Umar Johnson, Tony Hinchcliffe, and T.I. His sharp wit has also made him a sought-after guest on top platforms including The Joe Rogan Experience, The Breakfast Club, Funny Marco, DJ Vlad, and Club Shay Shay.
Rawlings first broke out as Ashy Larry on the iconic Chappelle’s Show, later proving his acting range with standout roles on HBO’s The Wire (as Damien “Day-Day” Price), STARZ’s BMF, and HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, and BET’s Twenties. His voice also reached millions as Dez in Pixar’s Oscar-winning blockbuster Soul.
His contributions to comedy were recognized with the prestigious Redd Foxx Award from The African-American Humor Awards. Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Alexandria, VA, Donnell also served in the U.S. Air Force in the late ’80s and early ’90s before launching his career.
While his career continues to soar, Donnell’s most treasured role is being a father to his nine-year-old son, Austen. Whether on stage, on screen, or behind the mic, Donnell Rawlings brings an authentic, unapologetic voice that makes him one of today’s true icons of comedy and entertainment.
