Peters vs. Loebsack Again ?

Christopher Peters

It could be a re-match next year in Iowa's 2nd Congressional District. Christopher Peters, a surgeon and a republican from Coralville is preparing to challenge democratic incumbent Dave Loebsack from Iowa City.

Not surprisingly, he thinks health care will be one of the main issues, but Doctor Peters thinks both parties are focusing on treatment options, instead of what he thinks is the real issue - the high cost of services.
"Until we address the underlying costs or talk about coverage, like with the ACA or whatever may come out of the House and Senate - they're talking about coverage and not the cost and so it's really not a solution to the problem."
Peters says one of his chief goals, if elected, would be to reform our currently dysfunctional political system. And one way to do that would be to approve the American Anti-Corruption Act, a proposal to limit the influence of special interests in congress.
"Some of these include things like ending the exchange of donations from lobbyists in exchange for political favors, ending the revolving door between industries and the agencies that regulate them, et cetera."
Even though he lost last year in his first try, Peters says finishing with 46 per cent of the vote despite having limited resources, shows he could win next year.
His week-long announcement tour of the 2nd District began last Sunday, and continues through this weekend, with stops in all 24 counties. Thursday he visited Washington, Tipton, Clinton, and Walcott. Friday Peters will travel to Muscatine, Wapello, and Burlington.
