Talking Art with Samantha Pauly

Originally from the Quad Cities, Samantha Pauly is an actor best known for originating the role of Katherine Howard in SIX the Musical on Broadway, and for her portrayal of Eva Perón in Jamie Lloyd’s critically acclaimed London revival of Evita.

Previews for SIX the Musical began on Broadway on February 12, 2020 and the show was scheduled to premiere on March 13, 2020 – the exact day that theatres were shuttered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She played the role of Katherine Howard, the fifth wife of Henry VIII, in the production.

Samantha Pauly is currently quarantining in Chicago, where we spoke with her.  She has been releasing “A Song A Day” on Instagram since the shutdown began, recording over 70 songs to date.

Listen to our conversation here about the importance of telling other women’s stories on stage, the hard work and dedication necessary to sustain a career in musical theatre, and the uncertainty facing not just Broadway, but theatres in general as we emerge from this unprecedented pandemic.

Carolyn Martin joined WVIK as a host of Talking Art in 2017. A long-time fan of NPR programming with a love of storytelling and all art forms, she is thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with creative people who beautify our community and make the Quad Cities region an even better place to live.
