This weekend, sweet celebrations of Illinois' bicentennial will pop up all over the state. The Illinois Office of Tourism and local visitors bureaus will serve free birthday cake on Sunday, Illinois Constitution Day.
State Tourism Director Cory Jobe will help cut the first piece of Eli's Cheesecake at the main event in Springfield. The famous business is based in Chicago. It has baked a 300 pound, three tier special cheesecake for the occasion.
Local convention and visitors bureaus will also serve cake in other cities. That includes Pub 1848 on River Drive in downtown Moline, on Sunday from 1 to 3 pm.
The constitution day parties are just one event the Tourism Office is promoting to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the state.
