'The Gallery Gap' Ep. 4: #5WomenArtists

The Gallery Gap launched in March in recognition of National Women’s History Month. Women artists are not the sole focus of this podcast, but they have certainly been the primary focus of this month’s episodes.

To wrap up Women's History Month, Claire and Melissa play a game called #5WomenArtists.

"Ask someone to name five artists and responses will likely include names such as Warhol, Picasso, van Gogh, Monet, da Vinci—all male artists. Ask someone to name five women artists, and the question poses more of a challenge."

That's the explanation behind #5WomenArtists, a social media initiative of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, located in Washington, D.C. The museum has a year-round mission to address gender imbalance in the art world, which readily fits within the theme of this podcast. In March, the NWMA ups the ante, reaching out to museums across the United States to recognize women in their own collections.

In this episode, Claire and Melissa name #5WomenArtists who they admire. Feel free to play along!
