The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is holding a career fair this Tuesday from 2 to 6 pm at the Holiday Inn in Rock Island.

Aisha Price, Recruitment Section Manager at IDOT, says the department is looking for secretaries, accountants, highway maintainers, civil engineers and more. All IDOT positions are within the Quad Cities, and applicants need not worry about bringing a pen or pencil.

"Just their ears to listen about what we have and ready to apply, Price said. " I don't want people to stress out thinking they need a resume because you have to upload your resume online. Everything is online now."

Price says Central Management Services will be on-site with computers to help applicants create profiles, and people from the Secretary of State's office are available for anyone wondering about Commercial Driver's Licenses.

"The application process can be lengthy, but at the end, you have to think of in the long run," Price said. "I've been with the state for twenty years; you have to think of the longevity career with the state."

Unlike private companies, where applicants could spend weeks or months without hearing a word, the state application process is up to date on letting applicants know of their process by email or phone.

"We keep in contact with you and that's the difference." Price told WVIK.

Price says IDOT offers multiple state benefits, including personal time, sick time and a work-life balance that allows workers to enjoy vacation and family events.

According to Price, highway maintainers, engineers, and technicians are in demand, but most positions do not require education. The fair will have positions for IDOT beginners.

The state's website is updated frequently, and if Quad City residents want to move, there are more IDOT positions throughout the state.

If people cannot attend the fair, Price says they can email dot.recruitment@illinois.gov with their resumes or questions.

Applicants can attend the fair by visiting the Holiday Inn at 226 17th Street in Rock Island.
