Rock Island City Hall Renovations

Rock Island City Hall
WVIK News
Rock Island City Hall

Rock Island may use some of its federal ARPA money to update city hall. Monday night the city council will consider hiring an architectural firm to design the project and come up with some cost estimates.

City Manager Todd Thompson says their goal is to make sure the 83 year old building is well maintained, accessible, and functional. And one area for possible changes is the city council chambers.

"It's not a very flexible space and it's not a very comfortable space - you've got the hard wooden chairs that are fixed to the floor. Our thought would be to open that up and make it more functional so you could have training in there and you could even have other types of meetings in there."

Updating may also focus on the city hall lobby, the administrative offices, and the second floor - to make the entrance to the staff offices "appear more inviting."

The proposed contract would pay Streamline Architects 9,700 dollars.
