Director of Parks and Recreation, Eric Griffith, says the original pool was built in 2003.
"So really, nothing is wrong with the existing pool other than it doesn't really meet the needs of the community. So we're keeping the existing shell of the swimming pool, and that's going to be our main body of water. We're just adding to what's currently there and upgrading it."
The new aquatic center will include water slides, a splash pad, upgraded concessions, shelters, more shady areas, a lazy river, and night lights.
Griffith says local residents were invited to help decide what features it would have.
"And everyone likes the lazy river. At the end of the day it was the number one feature that everyone requested through our surveys and our feedback."
It's scheduled to open for Memorial Day, next year.
