Chow has spent his career managing public housing development in Chicago and Joliet. Now he's focused on addressing the need for affordable housing in Rock Island.
"Based on our waiting lists alone, there are probably 2,000 individuals or families waiting to be housed, and we just don't have enough affordable housing to provide that service. So Rock Island, no different from any other community, is in desperate need of more affordable housing units.
He says it's crucial to build affordable homes to serve those most in need, like single parents, veterans, and the elderly. And it takes the support of an entire community to achieve that."
"It's not just about the bricks and sticks of addressing affordable housing. There is a critical partnership that needs to be established with all the stakeholders. And when I say stakeholders, I mean everybody--the community, the city, state agencies and so forth."
Former Director Susan Anderson ran Community Home Partners for 22 years, overseeing the investment of more than $70 million into Rock Island's housing stock.
