New Round of Rental Assistance Available from Illinois

Illinois residents who are behind on their rent can apply for up to $25,000 in grants from the state.

The Rental Payment Program is now open for another round of funding, with applications open through January 9. Beth Payne from the Economic Growth Corporation says her organization can help with applying.

"People are able to apply for the rental payment program online only through the website known as IllinoisHousingHelp.org. Since the application is only available online, we have laptops and internet available for those that may not have that readily accessible."

The website automatically walks you through the eligibility questions before taking you to the application.

Tenants must be behind on their rent and have experienced financial hardship as a result of the pandemic, making at most 80% the area's median income. Proof of citizenship is not required.

Quad Cities residents can learn more about the payment program on Thursday afternoon. Representatives from the Illinois Housing Development Authority will be at the Camden Center in Milan (2701 1st Street) at 1 PM to answer questions and help with applications.

Information is available in both English and Spanish.

The website to apply for rental assistance is IllinoisHousingHelp.org, and the deadline is Sunday, January 9.

You can call the Economic Growth Corporation at 309-788-6311 or go to EconomicGrowthCorporation.com.
