Students Can Dress for Less

Augustana College wants their students to dress for success. J.C. Penny's National "Suit-Up" sale will be held this weekend for Augustana students, faculty, and staff.

Laura Kestner-Ricketts, Executive Director of Career and Professional Development, says college students will get 40 percent off business wear.

"All college students need to have a professional wardrobe, definitely for interviewing. They'll have a suit and be dress professionally when they're interviewing. This is an opportunity for our students who maybe don't have a whole lot of money yet because they haven't started their first job, to purchase career wear at reduced prices."

J. C. Penney employees will be there to make suggestions, offer style advice, and help with fitting. A special a makeup counter will be open, along with the salon.

Kestner-Ricketts says the college will offer students who qualify "mini-grants" to help pay for clothing.

"I think it's an exciting event for our students. I think a lot of students are nervous about their job search. And while being dressed professionally may seem superficial, it does count for a lot. And I think a professionally dressed student feels more confident as they move into an interview or into their first internship or job."

Suit-Up will be held this Sunday at the Northpark Mall in Davenport from 4-7 p.m.
