Kahl Building Sold

WVIK News

Just days after dedicating its new campus in downtown Davenport, the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges has sold the old one. Wednesday it announced the sale of the Kahl Building for 2 million dollars to a Bettendorf company called JNB Capitol Building.

JNB Capitol is owned by Jim Bergman who plans to convert the building into 70 luxury apartments. and restore the Capitol Theater.

Scott Community College had used the 10-story Kahl Building for classes since the mid-1990's. It was a gift from the family of V.O. and Elizabeth Figge - she was the daughter of Henry Kahl, the building's namesake.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
