Augustana College Provost Dr. Dianna Shandy announces that the college has received a $25,000 grant.
The grant is from the Teagle Foundation, a New York-based nonprofit that aims to strengthen liberal arts education by easing financial stressors.
Dr. Shandy says the grant is beneficial in multiple ways. “one of the reasons that we think this grant is such a good fit for Augustana. Is that it not only helps us make general education more compelling and relevant, but also really ensures that students develop critical thinking skills that we know are prized in the workplace and beyond.”
The grant is a Cornerstone: Living for Learning grant that will be used for faculty training and revising the first-year general education curriculum. The first-year curriculum was voted on by professors to be changed from a year-long course to one semester. Staff will be given further training and materials that will help them throughout the school year.
Augustana is eligible to apply for more grants in the spring for up to $250,000.
