Nikki Haley held town hall in Davenport

WVIK News

Another GOP presidential candidate campaigned in the Quad Cities on Wednesday.

Former UN ambassador Nikki Haley held a town hall at the Von Maur Warehouse in Davenport.

The Republican presidential candidate talked about many topics, including national security. She says the US should continue sending aid to Israel and Ukraine.

"Russia said once they take Ukraine, Poland and the Baltics are next," she said. "Poland and the Baltics, those are NATO countries. If that happens, America is at war. This is about preventing war."

"Now let's go to Israel. Israel's a bright spot in a tough neighborhood. They have always been the tip of the spear when it comes to defeating terrorism," Haley said. "It has never been that Israel needs America. It has always been that America needs Israel."

As president, she says she would be tougher on China.

"Don't let Biden and Yellen tell you that China is a competitor. I dealt with China everyday at the United Nations, China never saw us as a competitor, they always saw us as an enemy. We've got to start looking at China the way they look at us."

The former governor of South Carolina also discussed border security, "humanizing" the topic of abortion, getting COVID relief money back, and energy independence.

"We need to take our energy sector and turn it into an economic powerhouse, and that means we have to get the EPA out of the way," Haley said. "Right now they care more about sagebrush lizards than they do about whether we can pay our utility bills."

As president, she says she would use executive orders sparingly, and provide better healthcare for veterans.

"I think every member of congress should get their healthcare from the VA and you watch how fast that gets fixed," she joked. "It'll be the best healthcare you've ever seen, guaranteed."

Haley is campaigning ahead of the Jan. 15 Iowa Republican caucuses. She will debate Florida Governor Ron Desantis at Drake University five days before that.

DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy are also campaigning in the Quad Cities area this week.
