Clark's appearance drew a big crowd today. After her round of golf, she signed autographs and met some of her young fans. Then she participated in a Youth Clinic at the driving range.
"Obviously this one means a little more. It's close to where I'm from. A lot of Hawkeye fans can come to this and support the community," Clark says. "So it was an easy yes and obviously getting to play alongside Zach, I think this one is a little different, a little more special to me than any other program that I can probably play in."
Johnson says he was a Caitlin Clark fan before this year's classic.
"We know that when she crosses half-court, she's lethal, but I'm more of a fan of the way she and Lisa (Coach Bluder) and her team go about everything else," he says. "Specifically, this young lady to my right is transcendent, and I can't speak highly enough about how she handles herself."
Clark won the Associated Press Women's College Basketball Player of The Year for her performance last year with the Hawkeyes. Johnson is this year's Ryder Cup captain and a 12-time PGA Tour winner and past Deere Classic champion.
Round One of the John Deere Classic starts tomorrow, and the PGA Tour competition continues through Sunday.
