After nearly four years on the job, the superintendent of the Rock Island schools will leave soon, but not by choice. Tuesday night the school board voted to "relieve" Reginald Lawrence of his duties.

A formal separation agreement between the board and Doctor Lawrence takes effect on June 3rd, and follows weeks of private meetings by the board.

No additional information was included in the brief press release from the school district.

He started working as Rock Island superintendent in 2019 following a career in the Milwaukee public schools - as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and regional superintedent.

His latest contract would have run through 2025.
