Three members of the Schmidt family were shot, stabbed, and strangled last month at Maquoketa Caves State Park.

That's according to the autopsy results released today (Thursday) by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

It says 42-year-old Tyler Schmidt died from a gunshot wound and "multiple sharp force injuries." His wife, 42-year-old Sarah, died from "multiple sharp force injuries." Officials also say their 6-year-old daughter, Lula, died from a gunshot wound and strangulation. They were all from Cedar Falls.

The agency confirmed the killer was 23-year-old Anthony Sherwin, of LaVista, Nebraska. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The family was attacked the morning of July 22nd in their tent at the Maquoketa Caves campground.

The press release also says, "The known facts and circumstances, and all evidence collected to this point, substantiate Sherwin was the perpetrator of the homicides and acted alone."

The investigation will continue, and no more information is available at this time.

The Schmidt's nine-year-old son, Arlo, was camping with his family and survived the attack. A memorial service was held in Cedar Falls earlier this week.
