Younger COVID-19 Patients in Landing in QC Hospitals

The CDC COVID-19 tracker says the level of transmission in Scott County is now "substantial" compared to Wednesday's "moderate" level.

And it might not be long before Rock Island County reaches that level, too.

The county health departments report more than 120 new cases over the last week. And test positivity rates have doubled during that time.

Lisa Caffery is a Registered Nurse and the Infection Control Coordinator for Genesis Health System. She says compared to last year, hospitalized COVID patients are younger. Their average age is 43.

Dr. Toyosi Olutade is the Chief Medical Officer for UnityPoint Health Trinity. He says 97% of in-patients with COVID-19 are un-vaccinated.

When some people come to the emergency room for treatment of COVID symptoms, they ask if they can get the vaccine. But Olutade by then it's too late.

Officially, Michelle's title for 28 years was WVIK News Editor. She did everything there is to do in the newsroom and whatever was needed around the radio station. She also served as Acting News Director from September 2023 - January 2024.
