Now that the Mississippi River is finally back below flood stage, the Channel Cat Water Taxi has officially launched its new season. 

Thanks to a federal grant, Metro Link has been able to buy five more "battery electric" buses. The public transit provider for the Illinois Quad Cities officially added them to its fleet during a a celebration  Wednesday morning.


A new bus service is designed to reduce traffic congestion during construction of the new I-74 bridge. On Monday the "Stretch" commuter bus service began carrying people between Bettendorf and downtown Moline, and Bettendorf and downtown Rock Island.

Just in time for the beginning of summer, the Channel Cat Water Taxi will open for the season. For the 24th year, the signature blue boats will travel between Moline, Bettendorf, and Davenport, across the Mississippi River, starting Friday.
