Some teachers, parents, and school board members are speaking out against Iowa Gov. Kim Reynold's in-person learning mandates. Congressional candidate Rita Hart hosted a virtual roundtable about school re-opening plans.

Iowa Supreme Court

The Iowa Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Muscatine Tuesday night. Justices do most of their work in Des Moines, but for the 9th year they'll hear several cases in other cities. 

Julian Castro for President 2020

Democratic presidential candidate Julian Castro will campaign in Iowa this weekend. This will be the third trip to the state for the former mayor of San Antonio and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

A candidate for Congress in eastern Iowa is hoping to hold eight debates with the incumbent. On Friday, Republican Christopher Peters issued the challenge to Democratic incumbent Congressman Dave Loebsack.

One of the democratic candidates for governor will kickoff a statewide tour this weekend in eastern Iowa. Starting in Iowa City on Sunday, Fred Hubbell plans to hold 14 stops, over four days, focused on the economy.

Just a day or two after they returned from Houston and Hurricane Harvey, some Iowa National Guard soldiers and helicopters are being deployed again. Monday, 19 soldiers and four helicopters from Davenport, Iowa City, Boone, and Waterloo left for Florida to help victims of Hurricane Irma.

Traveling between the Quad Cities and Iowa City will be easier starting next week.  Currently River Bend Transit offers bus service from Davenport to Iowa City on Mondays, but beginning August 18, it will add Tuesdays through Fridays.


First Lady Michelle Obama believes voting is the most important investment young Iowans can make in their future. Today, she visited the University of Iowa to campaign for Congressman, U.S. Senate candidate, and fellow democrat Bruce Braley.
