Champions Indoor Football Adds Quad Cities Team

Starting next spring the Quad Cities will once again be home to an indoor football team.

The new version of the Quad City Steamwheelers will kick off its 12-game season at the iWireless Center in March, carrying the same name as an arena football team that played here for nearly a decade from 2000 to 2009.

Football fans Sandy Muller and her husband Brian say they went to every single home game during that time.

"It was so much fun -- they were just incredibly exciting, and very fan-friendly and interactive with the fans. They endeared themselves to this community and the fans adored them."

The team will be apart of a league called Champions Indoor Football, which is headed by Ricky Bertz.
Bertz says the league will aim to cultivate the same sort of fan-base that the original Steamwheelers had.

"I can tell everybody--the residents in the Quad Cities area, the Steamwheelers fans--that the ownership group, they're going to do great things here, they're going to do things the right way and things that will make the community proud."

The CIF league has a total of 14 teams -- spanning from Texas to western Michigan.

The Steamwheelers are expected to play a total of seven home games next year, tickets for which go on sale in the fall.
