In collaboration with the River Bend Food Bank, 15 high schools are competing in the 36th Student Hunger Drive, starting Monday.
Food Bank spokeswoman, Liz Dierolf says, 14 percent of local students are experiencing hunger.
"The Student Hunger Drive provides a great opportunity for us to get a wide variety of food for the people that we serve, because the manufacturers and distributers donate lots of food but it might be a whole truck load of canned green beans or something."
Last year, the drive collected enough food for over 700 thousand meals, and a total of 16 million meals since 1985.
Dierolf says the students make the drive into a fun-filled event.
"The students all compete in their first collective competition. each group from each school put together a skit and our judges determine who the winner is, and awards an extra 2,000 pounds towards their total."
The Student Hunger Drive will continue through November 10th.
