9 am Undergraduate Ceremony Candids Spring 2021 460.1014

Spring commencement will be held this weekend at Western Illinois University. Three ceremonies for Bachelor's Degrees will be held in Macomb on Saturday, with a ceremony for the Quad Cities campus on Sunday afternoon.

Nearly 1,500 students will receive degrees, including 1,000 undergraduate students and 400 at the graduate level.

Two alumni will be recognized: Patrick Magoon from the class of 1976, is the retired president and CEO of Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and from the class of 1971, Robert Nardelli, former Chairman and CEO of Home Depot.

The Quad Cities campus ceremony will be held on Sunday at 1:30 pm at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline.

The ceremonies will be available via livestream on WIU's YouTube channel.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois. While a graduate student in the Public Affairs Reporting Program at the University of Illinois at Springfield (then known as Sangamon State University), he got his first taste of public radio, covering Illinois state government for WUIS. Here in the Quad Cities, Herb worked for WHBF Radio before coming to WVIK in 1987. Herb also produces the weekly public affairs feature Midwest Week – covering the news behind the news by interviewing reporters about the stories they cover.
