Too Soon to Resume Worship Services ?

Religious leaders in the Quad Cities are urging Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds to change her mind.

Last week she lifted some restrictions on religious services despite the continuing danger from the coronavirus. But Rabbi Henry Karp, from Quad Cities Interfaith, a coalition of faith groups, says it's still too dangerous to hold worship services.

"One of the universal principles of all faith groups is one version or another of love your neighbor. And we love our neighbors by protecting our neighbors, by protecting ourselves and protecting our neighbors from such things as deadly viruses."

He says religions should not be "complicit" in exposing worshippers to the virus. Instead they should continue to follow the advice of experts and shelter at home and not gather in groups.

Last week, the Interfaith Alliance of Iowa also called on Iowa congregations and members to stay at home.
