Tanney Continues NFL Career with Giants

After being cut by the New York Giants in September, former Monmouth College quarterback Alex Tanney rejoined the team on Saturday.Tanney, originally signed to a two-year deal in 2019, signed a practice squad deal with the Giants over the weekend. He had survived the preseason cuts under Giants' new head coach Joe Judge until the final round of cuts in September. Tanney had been picked up by the Giants in the summer of 2018, eventually making the 53-man roster and serving as two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning's backup.

It was Tanney who replaced the future Hall of Famer in Manning's final game on Dec. 15, 2019, his second NFL appearance and first since 2016 when he nearly led the Tennessee Titans to a come-from-behind win in a 30-24 loss to Indianapolis.

Graduating from Monmouth in 2011, Tanney has had a journeyman's career in the NFL, landing on eight different teams and completing 11 of 15 passes for 100 yards and one touchdown. Tanney began his NFL career in Kansas City followed by stops in Dallas, Cleveland, Tampa, Tennessee (twice), Buffalo and Indianapolis before landing with the Giants.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
