Polls will be open Tuesday in eastern Iowa for residents to vote on a bond issue and something called "revenue purpose statements."
The Eastern Iowa Community College district is asking permission to borrow up to 40 million dollars to pay for new and expanded facilities in Scott, Clinton, Jackson, and Muscatine counties so it can offer training in everything from robotics and welding to agriculture and nursing.
District officials says the new bonds would replace a series from 2007 that will be paid off this year, so the new bonds would not require raising property taxes.
Three Quad Cities area school districts - Bettendorf, Pleasant Valley, and North Scott - will ask residents to approve extending their revenue purpose statements. Approval would allow them to borrow against revenue from the local option sales tax for up to 30 years, to 2050, instead of just nine years, to 2030, with no change in taxes.
Polls will be open in Scott County from 7 am until 8 pm. Instead of the usual precincts, the county has set up special voting centers.
