Schnucks Will Close Bettendorf Store

Schnucks

The Schnucks grocery store in Bettendorf is going to close. Friday the company announced it will close permanently on August 16th, and that all of its 80 employees will be able to transfer to other Schnucks stores.

Those who don't transfer will receive severance packages.

Chairman and CEO Todd Schnuck says the store has not been profitable. It opened at Duck Creek Plaza in Bettendorf in 2005.

Based in St. Louis, the company also has stores in Peoria and Rockford, plus DeKalb, Bloomington, Normal, Champaign, Urbana, and Springfield.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
