A woman with extensive experience in parochial and public schools will be the next Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Davenport. This summer, Lynne Devaney will succeed Lee Morrison who's going to retire.
She's looking forward to returning to Catholic education, after working for the past five years as Director of Humanities for the public schools in Appleton, Wisconsin.
"When I'm in the parochial school system obviously we can reach through that spiritual dimension that, sometimes I call it the habit of the heart, a little bit more deeply than how we approach it differently in public schools. It's a privilege to pray where you work and to express that faith."
Devaney first spent 22 years as a teacher, principal, and superintendent for the schools in the Archdiocese of Dubuque, then served as associate superintendent of the Dubuque School District. After a brief retirement, she went to work in Wisconsin.
The Diocese of Davenport covers 22 counties in southeast Iowa, and has 17 pre-schools, 13 elementary schools, and five high schools, with a total of more than 4,000 students.
