The city of Davenport is planning a series of "Party in the Park" events at seven different parks this summer.
Third Ward Alderman Marion Meginnis says their goal is not only to bring the community closer together, but to educate residents about local history.
"Many of these parks are associated with neighborhoods that grew up in Davenport a long time ago. So, two of the things we would like to answer for people are 'who built my neighborhood?' and 'what or who is my park named for?' because we lose those connections over time."
The parties will feature food, live entertainment, and kid-friendly activities. City staff will also attend.
"We're inviting the people around the parks, but we're really inviting everybody because we would love for residents from other neighborhoods to come to these parks and get to know the neighborhood around that and the people that live there."
The first "Party in the Park" is this Thursday, June 13th at Cork Hill Park on Farnam Street. For more information on the seven "Party in the Park" events, visit cityofdavenportiowa.com.
