An Award Winning Compost Facility in the Quad Cities

We are disposing of yard waste these days if it has not been already completed. It should not be difficult to do, and in the Quad Cities, it isn’t. There is a Public Works Compost Facility in Davenport, for example, that besides taking yard waste, also produces award winning lawn and garden products, and it has for 25 years!

Among the products you can buy is Garden Soil, bagged and bulk accessibility, both available. It is a mix of Earth Cycle Compost, a trademarked, nutrient-dense, soil conditioner, potting soil, and sand. This product is great for immediate planting. Use it in raised gardens, flower beds and pots.

Also available is potting soil, either bagged or in bulk. It is high in organic matter and water holding capacity. Great for flower pots, bedded plants and gardens. In the category of compost, either bagged or in bulk, there is available a high-quality compost used to improve soil condition, as a top dressing for existing turf or as a surface mulch. It is 100% compost, has no added soil, sand or filters, and is an excellent soil amendment.

If it is mulch that you need, the facility has that, too. It is available only in bulk. This natural shredded wood mulch and chopped wood mulch is free of stains and dyes and can be used for all landscaping projects.

Finally, the Davenport Compost Facility has firewood available for pickup year-round, while supplies last. Materials from any Scott County property that can be dropped off include: grass, leaves, garden debris, hedge trimmings, logs, branches, tree trimmings, and clean tree root balls. They will not take used mulch, lumber, railroad ties, sod, or invasive and noxious weeds.

At the check in customer service window, let them know what you are dropping off, receive instruction, and pay any applicable fees. The Davenport Compost Facility is a pioneer in the field of composting producing useful soil and landscaping products and keeping green waste out of the landfill since 1995.

They are at 2707 Railroad Street in Davenport. For product availability and delivery options, they can be reached at 563-328-7225. Winter hours, 8-3 p.m. start December 1st; anyone can buy products from this green waste recycling center.
