Macomb’s Regional Office of Education is adopting Vision 2030. Vision 2030 is a collaborative effort between eight education associations to improve education in the state.
The statewide associations developed the tentative five-year plan highlighting future-focused learning, predictable school funding, and a timely Illinois assessment system.
The priorities for Vision 2030 are student safety, college and career readiness, high-quality educators, and curriculum flexibility.
Regional Superintendent John Meixner explains how these priorities will affect students. “We’d like to make sure we have an education that, you know, affects the whole child. In other words, we’re not going to try tracks towards certain colleges, per se. We want to track them towards colleges and career pathways.”
The plan started in October 2023 after the success of Vision 2020. The previous plan worked on improving educators, student testing, and school funding.
School districts are governed separately from the Regional Office of Education #26 and will vote for the plan in their board meeting. The Reginal Office #26 area includes Fulton, Hancock, McDonough, and Schuler Counties.
The statewide associations include The Illinois Association of School Administrators; Illinois Association of School Boards; Illinois Principals Association; Illinois Association of School Business Officials; Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools; Superintendents’ Commission for the Study of Demographics; Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education; and Illinois Association of Rural and Small Schools.
