Individuals impacted by cancer can now access resources and support virtually through a new mobile app.
Cancer Support Community Iowa & Northwest Illinois at Gilda’s Club (CSCIAIL) launched its MyCancerSupport app, connecting users with activities and services online.
The app was developed in partnership with the Cancer Support Community national headquarters.
Program Director Kelsey Allen says the “one-stop shop for access” is available for anyone in Iowa or Illinois.
“Having to make a phone call to sign up for a program or go find the website can literally stop somebody in their tracks and prevent them and be a barrier to them accessing our support, so this is hopefully to break down that barrier and just make it more accessible,” Allen said.
Allen says the new app also contains an extensive library of doctor-approved cancer research documents and features a Cancer Support Helpline for users.

“There’s articles about coping with mental health during cancer. There’s articles about clinical trials and health and wellness," Allen said. "There’s articles specifically designed for caregivers.”
