IL Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program

The Illinois Works is accepting applications for its pre-apprenticeship construction program. The fourteen-week program will give students the certifications and experience needed for a construction career.

Scott Terry, head of the Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program, says the program has a lot to offer. “This is not a long training program but valuable in terms of stuff you garner from it, certifications and training, and the benefits that are derived in terms of the transitioning. You’re not just trying to get hired by Valley Construction by yourself or one of the trades by yourself, you got us to help you transition.”

Participants will get an ICCB certification, an NSC Work Zone Flagger Construction certification, an OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification, a CPR/First Aid certification, and exclusive Bid Credit Eligibility.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must be eighteen years or older, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be an Illinois resident.

The program runs Monday through Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. starting February 3rd. The program is held in Geneseo High School CTE Building, 700 N State St. Participants will be given a $14.50 hourly stipend.

Applications will be accepted until Friday, January 17th. To apply, go to https://theamericanjobcenter.org/trainingscholarships.php

The Illinois Works will be taking their summer program applications starting in April.

UPDATE 1/10/25: In an email statement, Scott Terry says the application window is now closing on Jan. 17th, not Jan. 10th.
