Annually, the Quad Cities’ PBS affiliate, WQPT, organizes Imagination Station, one of the area’s biggest family-friendly events of the year. It’s targeted toward families and children seeking to interact with timeless PBS characters. Because of the anticipated attendance, WQPT is looking for volunteers to help and assist with both the event’s set-up and take-down, its activity stations, and even how parking will go.
WQPT’s Director of Educational Outreach Melissa Gravert said the need for volunteers is still present and that the operations of lots of different tasks, from organizing kids’ games to overseeing arts-and-crafts activities, necessitate volunteering assistance.
Gravert said the opportunity to volunteer unites diverse groups of people from various walks of life, connecting the community in unexpected but impactful ways.
“We have volunteers from all over the community that come together to make this event possible, so it really does bring so many parts of our community together to celebrate PBS Kids in a really meaningful way,” Gravert said.
To best equip volunteers, WQPT will offer a virtual orientation covering duties and responsibilities prior to the date of the event. Volunteers, then, will be sent ahead of time all the necessary information needed for the event to run smoothly.
Held at Western Illinois University’s Quad Cities campus in Moline, Imagination Station will be broken up into two sessions on Saturday, October 19th. The one in the morning begins at 9:00 a.m. and lasts until 11:00 a.m., while the other following at noon goes through to 2:00 in the afternoon.
Although the event is free to those who wish to attend, an admission ticket is required. Tickets can be obtained by visiting wqpt.org/imagine, where more general information concerning the event can also be found. Individuals interested in volunteering can register themselves at wqpt.org/volunteer.
