Illinois’ American Red Cross chapter has been seeking the commitment of volunteers to support its disaster-relief efforts after Hurricane Helene’s recent devastation. Interested individuals are urged to sign up at redcross.org/volunteer. All candidates will then need to complete training. The commitment is a two-week deployment at emergency shelters in storm-affected regions.
Besides becoming a Red Cross volunteer, Illinoisans can help through alternative means, such as offering financial donations to provide aid. There’s always the opportunity to donate blood, and appointments to do so can be scheduled at any time.
Residents of the Quad Cities need not venture far to offer their assistance. Upcoming blood drives and other blood-donation opportunities will be held throughout counties nearby through the end of the year. Information can be found at redcrossblood.org, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, or by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
