Scott County residents living in unincorporated areas can seek waste relief next week by piling debris near the road or public right of way.
The Secondary Roads and Conservation are partnering with the Waste Commission of Scott County to depose FEMA-approved waste on Wednesday starting at 7 a.m.
They ask residents to sort debris into three piles. Construction materials like drywall, lumber and carpet. A separate pile for bulky waste like flood-impacted furniture, doors and padding. The final pile is large appliances, including refrigerators, washers and water heaters.
The crews will not accept regular bagged trash and hazardous materials like paint as well as electronics.
Removal will start in the northern area of unincorporated Scott County and proceed southward. The crews will not return after their initial pickup unless the trucks need to be dumped to accept additional approved material.
If waste is left behind, the owner must dispose of the material themselves.
Residents with collection questions can contact the Scott County Secondary Roads at 563-326-8640. Questions regarding non-FEMA-approved items can be directed to the Waste Commission at 563-381-1300.
