People in the Quad Cities will honor the memory of George Floyd one year after his death.

This Saturday at 2 p.m., the Quad Cities social justice group WE FIGHT will hold a peaceful demonstration outside the Bettendorf Police Department.

Davenport Attorney Eric Puryear helped organize the event. He says protests like this one are necessary to ensure long-lasting police reform.

“We saw that last year with the Davenport police officer who was saved by qualified immunity from a federal lawsuit after stomping on a man’s ankle… There are real issues right here in this community and nationwide with police brutality. Those issues have not been fixed in the last year.”

Puryear says WE FIGHT plans to host more protests in the coming months.
