Help Solve the Murder of Tammy Zwicki

Illinois State Police
Tammy Zywicki

For the second time in just a few days, police are asking for help in solving the long-ago disappearance of a young woman. Friday was the 24th anniversary of the disappearance of 11 year old Trudy Appleby, and Sunday was the 28th anniversary of when 21 year old Tammy Zywicki was last seen.

On August 23rd, 1992, Zwicki left Evanston, Illinois, heading for Grinnell College in central Iowa. Her car was found abandoned later that day along Interstate 80 near Utica, Illinois, and her body was found a week later along Interstate 44 in Lawrence County, Missouri in the southwest part of the state.

Anyone with information about her kidnapping and murder should call the Illinois State Police (815-726-6377) or the Chicago office of the FBI (312-421-6700).

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
