Adler & River Center Upgrades

Kyle Carter

Davenport is spending $3 million for upgrades at the River Center and Adler Theatre. A project to replace the boilers has already started, and the city will soon approve bids to replace the roof-top units and controllers.

Executive director Rick Palmer says the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems date back to 1984 for the Adler and adjacent facilities on the north side of Third Street, and to 1994 for the building on the south side.

"25 and 35 years is a mighty long time and certainly beyond the life cycle of that equipment. It's something we've been planning for, something that both the council and ourselves knew that it was coming and needed to be done."

Palmer says new boilers should be installed in time for the winter heating season, while the new air conditioning units will be installed during the fall and winter, and in time for warm weather next spring.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
