- A Quad Cities-based restaurant chain wants to spread "happiness" around the country. Happy Joe's is joining with Dynamic Restaurant Holdings to help it expand.
- Unemployment continued to fall in the Quad Cities in September. The jobless rate dropped one full percentage point—from 5.5 percent a year ago to 4.3 percent last month.
- This weekend, Moline's Kiwanis Club will help fix up a couple of homes in the Floreciente neighborhood. The members decided to spend their annual Day of Service helping Habitat for Humanity on Saturday.
- The federal government is still hiring guards to work at the Thomson prison, north of the Quad Cities. Yesterday at a workshop in Rock Island, the Bureau of Prisons taught people about the positions that are currently available at the penitentiary, and how to apply.
