- This weekend, Savanna and Sabula invite people to enjoy one last ride on the Mississippi River bridge that's connected the two towns for 80 years. A new bridge is under construction, and next month, the Illinois Department of Transportation will close the old US 52, Illinois 64 bridge.
- The debate over school funding dominated much of the Illinois legislative session, and concluded with a compromise plan designed to send more state funds to the neediest districts. But so far, those districts haven't gotten any extra money.
- The Iowa economy is still growing, but not as strongly as predicted, and tax receipts for this budget year are off to a slow start. That's the conclusion of members of the Iowa Revenue Estimating Conference who say unless things pick up, this year's state budget will have to be reduced by roughly $130 million.
