News headlines for the morning of August 29, 2017

  • On Monday, Iowa's Board of Educational Examiners filed a formal charge that Davenport Superintendent Art Tate allowed the district to spend more than permitted by the school aid formula. The Board scheduled a hearing for next February, more than five months from now.

  • It took three different votes yesterday, but the Illinois House of Representatives ultimately approved a new evidence-based school funding plan. Governor Bruce Rauner has pledged to sign the measure if it passes the Senate today.

  • Local Red Cross volunteers are helping people in the Houston area survive flooding after Hurricane Harbey. Over the weekend, 38 volunteers left for Texas from Illinois and eastern Iowa — 11 of them from the Quad Cities.
