At Fillmore Elementary in Davenport, students used to eat lunch in the gym and learn in the district's smallest classrooms. But, that's all changed. Today, the school is holding a ribbon cutting for its new addition.
Principal Bonnie Asay says the 7-million-dollar renovation included expanding each classroom, and adding 6 new ones.
Fillmore also purchased Google Chromebooks and tablets for each student to use, renovated its office and nursing area, and added new playgrounds, a parking lot, and multi-purpose room.
Asay says the school also installed solar panels on the roof, making Fillmore only one of two schools in the district to use solar energy.
She says the changes were funded by the local option sales tax and the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy.
The ribbon cutting ceremony is today at 5:30 pm, at Fillmore Elementary.
