After a couple of years, Davenport will have a new sewer to transport wastewater along the riverfront. On Wednesday night, the city council considered hiring Langman Construction for the $9.5 million project.
City Engineer, Brian Schadt, says it's called the "1930s Interceptor Flow Diversion Project." The large sewer pipe runs between Division Street and McClellan Heights.
A study shows substantial leaks allow river water, storm runoff, and ground water to flow into the sewer. It has cross-connections with other pipes installed in the 1970s.
It'll take two years to complete the interceptor flow project. And Schadt says it will help reduce pressure on Davenport's Water Pollution Control Plant during Mississippi River floods.
The city also hopes to save money on the project by borrowing money through a state revolving loan fund.
