A Challenger for Mayor of Davenport

Frank Klipsch

Following a long career with the YMCA, Frank Klipsch has decided to run for mayor of Davenport. He announced his candidacy late this afternoon, setting up a probable race against Bill Gluba who's said he would like to run again but has not yet made a formal announcement.

Klipsch retired in December after 43 years with the YMCA, including 27 years in Davenport, and 25 as ceo of the Scott County Family Y.

One of his goals, if elected, is to get more people involved in governing Davenport, and working with local residents and local and state leaders to help the city grow and prosper.

Many people feel left out of major projects.

And as mayor of the largest city in the region, Klipsch says he'd help lead the effort to create more jobs and help the economy grow.

He helped organize the YMCA Youth and Family Foundation, and then served as president for two years prior to retiring. Since then he's worked as a consultant, and is teaching a class at Saint Ambrose University.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
