Your old appliances may be costing you money and hurting the environment. MidAmerican Energy is now offering to recycle old refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners for a cash rebate.
Spokeswoman Ashton Newman says keeping an older, less efficient appliance running can add 100 dollars to an electric bill each year.
Newman says MidAmerican will pick up old appliances by appointment, and give cash rebates of up to 50 dollars for each one.
She says the program is a way to ensure harmful toxins and chemicals are being disposed of properly. And instead of filling landfills, 95 percent of every appliance will be re-used or recycled.
