Peoria County is reducing the amount of mowing usually done along its highways and right of ways this summer.
The County is responsible for more than 300 miles of roadside. But is planning to only mow intersections, hidden driveways and visual safety hazards.
Peoria County usually mows its public right of ways at least twice a summer using temporary workers. Existing full time staff will be responsible for the selective mowing.
Leaving more public landunmowedis part of a two-year old initiative started by the Sierra Club to provide habitat for pollinating insects including bees and butterflies.
