MHS Club Changes Relationship Between General and Special Eduation Students

A club created "for students, by students" is changing the atmosphere at Moline High School. That's according to the Sports Unlimited Club, which is being recognized today by Illinois State Representative Pat Verschoore, for their work with special needs students.

90 student volunteers and special education students come together every month to participate in non-competitive sports and activities. School social worker, Sue Dell, says students created the club last year, and it's made it easier for special needs students to meet friends and participate in school activities.
Students have played sports, like tennis and volleyball, and have participated in Zumba, obstacle courses, and an end-of-year dance.

And Dell says the special needs students aren't the only ones benefiting from the club.

One volunteer says the special needs students have done more for them.

She says the number of students involved in the club keeps growing, and their interactions have positively influenced the entire school.

This afternoon, Representative Verschoore is presenting the Moline High School Sports Unlimited Club with an Illinois House Resolution.
