Candidates for BHC Trustee

Unless there are some last minute changes, voters in the Black Hawk College district will not have to make any difficult decisions in the spring election. Monday was the filing deadline for the board of trustees, and three people filed to run for 3 openings on the board.

They are Fritz Larsen of Moline, Joseph Swan from Colona, and Richard Fiems of Port Byron.
Fiems retired a couple of years ago after serving as police chief for the college.
The three trustees who decided not to run for re-election include current vice-chair, Donna Frye from Moline, John McCooley of Rock Island, and Kylee Fox also from Rock Island.
Both McCooley and Fox were elected two years ago to fill un-expired terms on the Black Hawk board.
The college district covers all or part of nine counties in west central Illinois.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
